Five series of photographs using private images (the family album of my own family) as a source material: Departing from a phase of 'straight' reproduction of the 'original' pictures (and the kind of sentiments they are likely to evoke) the context of the imagery is re-formulated in different ways. The work asks for other readings of the content and especially the usage of family album prints as carriers of memory, as objects of identification. In this way the work focuses on the particular ambiguity of the source images, being objects of a personal memory and potential historic documents at the same time (exposing possible conflicting patterns of identification). How are the references to a history, obvious or concealed, read by different audiences in the context of a usage of the medium basically everyone is familiar with?
